Leib­niz-Insti­tut für Agrar­tech­nik und Bio­öko­no­mie e.V. (ATB)

The Leib­niz Insti­tute for Agri­cul­tural Engin­eer­ing and Bioeconomy is a pion­eer and a driver of bioeconomy research. We cre­ate the sci­entific found­a­tion to trans­form agri­cul­tural, food, indus­trial and energy sys­tems into a com­pre­hens­ive bio-based cir­cu­lar eco­nomy. We develop and integ­rate tech­niques, pro­cesses and man­age­ment strategies, effect­ively con­ver­ging tech­no­lo­gies to intel­li­gently cross­link highly diverse bioeco­nomic pro­duc­tion sys­tems and to con­trol them in a know­ledge-based, adapt­ive and largely auto­mated man­ner. We con­duct research in dia­logue with soci­ety - know­ledge-motiv­ated and applic­a­tion-inspired.

For the Ger­man use case of the pro­ject „Mar­ginUp: Rais­ing the bio-based indus­trial feed­stock capa­city of Mar­ginal Lands“, fun­ded by the European Union, the fol­low­ing pos­i­tion is to be filled at the next pos­sible date,

“Basic invest­ig­a­tions on the defibra­tion of cel­lu­losic bio­mass in a twin-screw extruder”
  • Engin­eer or Mater­ial Sci­ent­ist -

Working field:

  • Sci­entific work in the Ger­man part of the European pro­ject Mar­ginUp
  • Plan­ning, imple­ment­a­tion and eval­u­ation of exper­i­ments on the har­vest­ing and pro­cessing of bio­mass from rewet­ted fen­land
  • Plan­ning, imple­ment­a­tion and eval­u­ation of exper­i­ments on the pro­duc­tion of nat­ural fibres from fen­land bio­mass with an extruder
  • Adap­tion and fur­ther devel­op­ment of machines for pro­cessing of fibre plants with focus on a twin-screw extruder
  • Determ­in­a­tion of mater­ial prop­er­ties and pro­cess mod­el­ling
  • Doc­u­ment­a­tion, ana­lysis and eval­u­ation of exper­i­mental res­ults
  • Organ­isa­tion of pro­ject meet­ings
  • Present­a­tion of pro­ject res­ults at sci­entific con­fer­ences and prac­tical ori­ented work­shops
  • Pre­par­a­tion of pro­ject reports and sci­entific pub­lic­a­tions

Requirements:

  • Excel­lent uni­versity degree (Dip­loma, Mas­ter of Sci­ence) in mech­an­ical engin­eer­ing, mater­ial sci­ence or related fields
  • Know­ledge and exper­i­ence in design exper­i­mental set-ups in labor­at­ory and tech­nical scales
  • Know­ledge and exper­i­ence in, or will­ing­ness to become famil­iar with, meth­ods for mod­el­ling mater­ial prop­er­ties, espe­cially rhe­olo­gical mod­els
  • Sci­entific expert­ise, prefer­ably demon­strated by a degree in a field of activ­ity rel­ev­ant to the pro­ject
  • Proven exper­i­ence in work with script based soft­ware like Mat­lab, SAS or Python
  • Know­ledge in stat­ist­ical data ana­lysis
  • Ini­tial exper­i­ence with know­ledge trans­fer and inter- or trans­dis­cip­lin­ary cooper­a­tion
  • Flu­ent Eng­lish lan­guage pro­fi­ciency and proven abil­ity to write sci­entific pub­lic­a­tions
  • Com­mand of the Ger­man lan­guage is most wel­come, interest in learn­ing Ger­man is required
  • Will­ing­ness to travel accord­ing to pro­ject pro­gress and require­ments
  • Abil­ity to work in a team and will­ing­ness to cooper­ate, reli­ab­il­ity, flex­ib­il­ity, per­sonal com­mit­ment and abil­ity to work inde­pend­ently
  • European Driv­ing license class B is an advant­age

The salary is based on your qual­i­fic­a­tion and pro­fes­sional exper­i­ence accord­ing to TV-L up to salary group 13. This full-time pos­i­tion (100 %) is lim­ited until Novem­ber 30th, 2026 accord­ing to the end of the pro­ject.
