HarvestAi GmbH

HarvestAi is a young and international startup based in Potsdam. We are leveraging our networking with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to develop a greenhouse prediction model that uses machine learning and computer vision to predict harvest dates and yields, significantly improving the procedural processes in indoor farms. In this way, we are making a positive contribution to combating the world hunger crisis in times of climate change. With the support of the European Union and Brandenburg Kapital, we raised almost EUR 3 million euros in our first round of financing.

In this role, you will engage in both proof-of-technology (PoT) and production development for advanced hardware projects in the agricultural AI and computer vision space. The candidate will lead the effort to build HarvestAi's next IoT/camera product for data acquisition. This position is ideal for a recent engineering graduate who is ready to apply their knowledge in mechatronics and digital electronics to real-world challenges. You will be instrumental in developing technology prototypes, advancing them to low volume production, and ensuring their functionality and efficiency in practical settings. Your contributions will directly impact the success of our innovative hardware solutions, such as automated and robotic imaging systems.

Your responsibilities in detail:

  • Design and execute experiments for technology development.
  • Source components for prototypes and develop integrated hardware/software solutions.
  • Build bench-top prototypes and iterate designs based on testing results.

Production Development:

  • Develop specifications for low-volume products.
  • Plan and manage product development projects, including resource acquisition and report on the status of these projects to the relevant leads and other parties in the company.
  • Create system-level plans, 3D CAD designs, and part control documentation.
  • Assemble and debug prototypes using advanced tools.
  • Design manufacturing processes and identify production partners.
  • Develop risk management strategies (e.g., FMEA).

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science (BSc) or Master of Science (MSc) in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical Engineering strongly preferred).
  • Graduated from a reputable engineering school, with a curriculum emphasizing project-based classes in mechatronics.
  • Hands-on experience through internships involving engineering design projects.
  • Mechatronics experience that includes digital hardware driving mechanical devices in a system environment using tools such as Arduino or Raspberry Pi boards. Custom PCB experience is highly desirable as well.
  • Comprehensive coursework in statics, dynamics, electronics, materials, controls, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, etc.
  • Experience with design tools, such as 3D CAD and prototype fabrication.
  • 0-3 years of professional experience, with an emphasis on delivering market-viable objectives.
  • Independent working style, requiring minimal supervision but open to guidance.
  • Experience in teams utilizing external resources.
  • Confident in making hardware decisions based on data, balancing assertiveness with humility.
