Student assistant (40 hours per month)
Your responsibility:
Support in the project "SAVE Water" for the further development of the rSTEMMUS-SCOPE model for simulating soil–plant–water interactions, specifically through:
- Adapting the model to run under GNU Octave (without MATLAB license) (50%)
- Testing and validating model runs across different platforms (especially Linux environments, clusters) (15%)
- Ensuring reproducibility of simulation results (15%)
- Supporting code documentation and version control (20%)
Your profile:
Mandatory Criteria
- Experience with R, Python, and/or MATLAB
- Basic knowledge of working with Jupyter Notebooks
- Proficient in working with Linux systems
- Technical understanding and initial experience with model-based environmental research
- Good knowledge of German and/or English required; willingness to acquire the missing language skills
Desirable Criteria
- Experience with GNU Octave or the MATLAB Runtime Environment
- Knowledge of version control using Git/GitHub
- Experience running code on servers or clusters
- Initial experience in numerical modeling or scientific simulations
