Student assistant (40 hours per month)

Your responsibility:

Support in the project "SAVE Water" for the further development of the rSTEMMUS-SCOPE model for simulating soil–plant–water interactions, specifically through:

  • Adapting the model to run under GNU Octave (without MATLAB license) (50%)
  • Testing and validating model runs across different platforms (especially Linux environments, clusters) (15%)
  • Ensuring reproducibility of simulation results (15%)
  • Supporting code documentation and version control (20%)

Your profile:

Mandatory Criteria

  • Experience with R, Python, and/or MATLAB
  • Basic knowledge of working with Jupyter Notebooks
  • Proficient in working with Linux systems
  • Technical understanding and initial experience with model-based environmental research
  • Good knowledge of German and/or English required; willingness to acquire the missing language skills

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience with GNU Octave or the MATLAB Runtime Environment
  • Knowledge of version control using Git/GitHub
  • Experience running code on servers or clusters
  • Initial experience in numerical modeling or scientific simulations
