Energy sys­tems world­wide are under­go­ing rapid changes. Many coun­tries have set them­selves net-zero tar­gets. While renew­able ener­gies play a pivotal role and fossil-fuel phase-out is on the agenda, coun­tries face sig­ni­fic­ant chal­lenges: grids and mar­kets, reg­u­la­tion and sys­tem integ­ra­tion, struc­tural change, and a just trans­ition. In a nut­shell, it is about rein­vent­ing energy sys­tems.

This is where Agora Ener­giewende gets involved. As a think tank, we pur­sue a global cli­mate-neut­ral energy sys­tem by the middle of the cen­tury. With around 140 employ­ees at four loc­a­tions world­wide, we com­bine research, dia­logues, and pub­lic rela­tions in our daily work to find answers to those ques­tions cru­cial to the energy trans­ition. In doing so, we work closely with part­ners in numer­ous coun­tries. And - very import­antly - we act inde­pend­ently and free of eco­nomic or party-polit­ical interests.

Energy com­pan­ies, as the own­ers and oper­at­ors of both fossil fuel and renew­able assets and sup­port­ing facil­it­ies, their clean and just trans­ition can max­im­ize the effect­ive­ness of global emis­sions reduc­tion efforts, given the scale of their emis­sions and impact on soci­ety at home and abroad. Agora Ener­giewende has been imple­ment­ing cor­por­ate decar­bon­iz­a­tion work since 2021 by enga­ging stake­hold­ers via dia­logues and con­duct­ing desk research.

Working field:

  • Sup­port in the devel­op­ment of ana­lyses and stud­ies in the cor­por­ate decar­bon­iz­a­tion pro­ject as part of the inter­na­tional team;
  • Mon­it­or­ing, log­ging, and ana­lysis of tech­nical, reg­u­lat­ory, and polit­ical devel­op­ments in the field of cor­por­ate decar­bon­iz­a­tion;
  • Main­tain­ing data­sets in excel;
  • Sup­port in the pre­par­a­tion of qual­it­at­ive and quant­it­at­ive ana­lyses on cur­rent issues of cli­mate and energy policy;
  • Organ­iz­a­tional sup­port for research pro­jects;
  • Organ­iz­a­tional sup­port for meet­ings and events;
  • Gen­eral admin­is­trat­ive tasks, e.g., hand­ling invoices and doc­u­ments;
  • Sup­port­ing and facil­it­at­ing internal col­lab­or­a­tion with col­leagues from our Ber­lin, Beijing, Bangkok, and Brus­sels offices.

Requirements:

Below are the skills and exper­i­ence we are look­ing for. Please con­sider this as a menu, not a list of require­ments. We are look­ing for demon­strable exper­i­ence in at least some of these and evid­ence of capa­city to build skills in other areas.
  • A com­pleted bach­elor's degree and mas­ter's degree cur­rently in pro­gress (for at least one year) in a rel­ev­ant sub­ject, e.g., energy, elec­trical engin­eer­ing, eco­nom­ics, fin­ance, busi­ness engin­eer­ing, or polit­ical/social sci­ence;
  • Interest in ana­lyt­ical work;
  • Interest in the trans­form­a­tion of energy sys­tems;
  • First work exper­i­ence (e.g., intern­ships) is an advant­age;
  • Con­fid­ent hand­ling of qual­it­at­ive and quant­it­at­ive data;
  • An open-minded com­mu­nic­a­tion style and open­ness to work­ing in a diverse and inter­cul­tural team;
  • Very good know­ledge of spoken and writ­ten Eng­lish; other lan­guages, e.g., Ger­man or Chinese, are a plus.
